Here are the goals I would like to accomplish in the first 100 Days
Thank you, WE WON!!!
I just want to thank everyone for their support, we won the election by a rather wide margin!!
Board Policy 310 in my opinion appears (it should be noted that I am not an attorney) to be unconstitutional with regard to the First Amendment. It prohibits faculty or staff from communicating with Board members and prohibits Board members from speaking with faculty or staff. “Under no circumstances should an individual Board member direct or contact by any means, a staff member concerning a college or community issue...” It also greatly restricts how Board members are allowed to speak to the press. “Board members do not speak to the press in any way that reflects negatively on their colleagues or the college.” I am responsible to the people who elected me and not to the College President or the College Board. I will keep this web site updated to reflect how the Board responds to these issues. See attached link: https://www.redrocknews.com/2024/11/29/yavapai-community-college-tries-to-silence-free-speech-of-its-faculty-and-governing-board/
ELIMINATE the wasteful spending, get costs under control. See if there are any policies in place that actually encourage wasteful spending. Lower the budget. Hold people accountable for wasting the tax payers dollars. Seek input from the people who actually do the work when making financial decisions.
Improve transparency, I believe the public should be allowed to speak at ALL Board meetings, if there are fewer than ten speakers let the speak for five minutes instead of three. During the Board meeting that Board Policy 310 was passed, the public was barred from speaking or giving any public comment.
Have some Board meetings on weekends so people with jobs can attend and not have to miss work. Post the entire board packet that the board members receive, this should not add any cost to the college budget and will give the voters a more detailed overview of what the Board is going to discuss so they can decide if they wish to attend the meeting in person.
Meet with the department heads, find out, what works, what doesn’t, solicit suggestions for improvement. Have department heads submit goals with time frames for meeting those goals. Have them also submit problems, suggestions and the successes they have achieved.
Board Policy 401 delegates almost all of their oversight responsibilities to the College President. I believe it’s time the Board provide much needed independent oversight that the taxpayers expect of us.
I believe the college Deans, Vice Presidents and department heads should report to both the President as well as directly to the Board.
Review the budget line item by line item. Board members must be good stewards of the Colleges assets.
Get breakdown or tax revenue per campus vs. budget per campus.
Receive comprehensive organization chart with job descriptions for the entire college.
Meet with staff, establish a open door policy where they can express the suggestions, comments and concerns with the board in a confidential setting.
Tour all the campuses and meet with all the staff at each campus.
Invite any staff member to voice suggestions or concerns with me or any other Board member personally without fear of retribution.
Meet with as many political leaders as possible to find out their questions and concerns.
Effectively recruit new students.
End any DEI at Yavapai College. EVERY student should be given every chance to succeed not just those that happen to fall into certain groups.
